8 Best Joggers for Runners Who Don’t Like Wearing Tights

Whether you’re warming up, cooling down, or going for an easy run, these workout pants have you covered.

Comfy sweatpants, aka joggers, have become our default work-at-home uniform, but they’re also ideal to keep in your runner wardrobe when you need to layer over shorts before warming up or cooling down. They’re nothing like the lounge pants of yesteryear—not breathable, no pockets in women’s bottoms, elasticated waistbands that easily overstretch, and non-moisture-wicking. Today’s joggers have utilitarian pockets and other features, and are stylish and comfy enough to wear to the coffee shop. Yet they’re also lightweight and versatile enough to replace your winter tights when you’re actually… well, jogging.

Whether you prefer a slouchy silhouette or more tailored fit, the pants on this list have your legs covered, along with adjustable waistbands, zippered pockets for storage, and brushed exteriors resilient to wet and windy elements.

How We Selected

Almost all of these joggers were vetted by our team of testers, who evaluated their warmth and range of motion while running and cross-training, and tested their comfort factor by putting in some postrun R&R. We also researched the market and evaluated top-reviewed pairs online based on their performance, fabric quality, durability, and value. In the interest of thoroughness, we sifted through thousands of reviews to find any potential pros and cons we might have missed in our testing. Ultimately, we settled on these eight stand-out joggers.

Run-Worthy Athleisure Pant
Vuori Sunday Performance Jogger Pants

Key Specs

  • Sizes: S to XXL, depending on color
  • Materials: Spandex, polyester

Vuori describes its Sunday Performance Jogger as “a fresh take on athleisure,” which, according to our tester Tyler, undersells the pant’s performance. “I took these on a chilly taper run and found the thin polyester/elastane blend moved surprisingly well; it wasn’t so silky thin that it bounced around my knees, but it wasn’t thick enough to suffocate my legs.” The drawcord waistband cinches securely and comfortably, the smart taper keeps the pant out of your stride, and the wide, stretchy cuffs hold tight to your ankles.

The jogger has a mock fly and trim hip pockets, and a wide, patterned drawcord that our tester said gave him a “premium look.” The double-back zip pockets were appreciated, even though they’re not tight enough to hold anything but cards and cash when running, but the odd thigh pocket is a bit “confounding.” “Nothing fit comfortably in there,” said Tyler. “[However] that’s a small gripe for a jogger that gets most everything else just right.”

Key Specs

  • Sizes: S to 4XL, plus additional Waist sizes
  • Materials: Polyester, cotton

When compared to the tapered and teched-out running pants on this list, Champion’s Jersey Sweatpant is all-cotton, cavernous, and no-frills in a way that makes them ideal for pulling over a pair of shorts before and after cold runs, or, at $15, for stripping and tossing into the donation bin at the starting line. Alternately, shirk those irritating pant norms and live in these because they’re that comfortable and you’re an adult.

Weather Repeller
Janji Transit Pants

Key Specs

  • Sizes: S to XL
  • Materials: Spandex, polyester

Testers liked the Transit Pants’s high waistband and elastic ankles, describing the bottoms as having a “streamlined” look. The pants are great for wind-blocking, and have a tapered fit so they won’t hinder your stride. Lightweight, fast-drying, and breathable, the double-weave interior won’t cling to your skin.

“I love the aesthetic as a jogger pant with the high hem, elastic ankle band,” said our tester, Trevor. “These pants are not only functional, but definitely make me feel stylish in an ‘athleisure’ sense, plus the full-size pockets and stitching detail mean that they are far more than a sweat pant and can be used easily for casual wear and outings.”

Best Recovery Wear
Champion French Terry Jogger

Key Specs

  • Sizes: XS to XL
  • Materials: Spandex, cotton, polyester

We all know rest days are just as necessary as any other aspect of training. With that in mind, we embarked on a mission to find the ultimate rest-day joggers for stretching, foam-rolling, relaxing, and otherwise enjoying the joys of not running. These cozy joggers win our highest accolades for zero-day wear—they’re made of a lightweight French terry that feels stretchy and breathable enough for a yoga session but mostly just ideal for post-run napping. The wide, flat drawstring waist is comfortable and non-constricting. Two side pockets hold gels and run nutrition, or even your movie marathon snacks. You could spend a whole day in these pants and feel justified by your training plan’s prescription of “rest.” And then you could stock up on a few more for the rest of the week—the joggers are a bargain at just over $20 each.

Affordable Tech Pant
Baleaf EVO Joggers

Key Specs

  • Sizes: S to 3XL
  • Materials: Spandex, nylon

This is a true running pant ideal for crisp-but-not-cold spring and fall runs. The nylon/elastane material ranks among the thinnest and most breathable fabrics we tested. A perforated elastic waistband and laser-cut vents also keep the air circulating. We liked the tapered legs, the 9/10s length, the open hem, and the close fit. The fabric doesn’t stretch quite as easily as other elastane blends, though, so it feels a bit tight when the knee bends. However, this doesn’t ruin an otherwise runner-friendly fit.

Best Workout or WFH Pants
Under Armour Men’s Armour Fleece Pants
Under Armour

Key Specs

  • Sizes: S to 5XL, with Tall sizes available
  • Materials: 100% polyester

The exterior fleece in these fleece pants doesn’t feel quite as warm or wooly as you might expect—it better resembles the slick tech fabric of standard workout clothes. However, once you pull them on, there’s a soft interior layer that’s cozy enough to easily pass our tester’s “nap test.” These are the ultimate versatile joggers—they’re lightweight, breathable, and stretchy enough for a cool-weather run or gym workout and cut a slim, flattering profile. But the fit is relaxed and loose-feeling—and the waistband, forgiving and elastic—so they’re ideal for lounging or working from home without feeling like you’re fully abandoning the aesthetic standards of society.
